Candace Lee Wilson has been involved in the visual arts for over 40 years. She fell in love with fiber when her mother bought her a loom just after graduation from high school in Anchorage, Alaska. She then went on to received her bachelor's degree in Fiber Art from the University of Oregon. Later she went on to pursue an interest in Interior Architecture and received her BFA from California College of the Arts. For decades she and her husband had a very successful business in Northern California, remodeling high-end homes in the exclusive area of Marin County. During this time she always remained close to her passion for fiber and found that knitting provided a more mobile way of expressing her art. Nine years ago, she and husband relocated to the beautiful Bitterroot Valley in Montana. She discovered another passion in addition to fiber, kiln-formed fused glass. This technique involves using special art glass manufactured just for this medium. Glass is cut to the desired design then fused together in a glass kiln. Depending on the design, it can go through many steps before reaching the final piece. Sometimes, sandblasting is used to enhance a design, other times glass enamels are used, and sometimes just the natural beauty of the sheet glass stands on its own. Each piece created is unique and one-of-a-kind signed by the artist. Candace draws her inspiration from the surrounding wild life and natural beauty of Montana.
